Services

Our services include original cataloging, copy cataloging, physical processing, retrospective conversion, and reclassification.

Because we know you want to ensure that you are getting the best product and expertise available when considering the use of any cataloging agency, we will be happy to provide test records for any project at the very outset and before any contracts are signed.

LANGUAGES

Arabic; Chinese; Danish; Dutch; English; French; German; Greek; Hebrew; Italian; Korean; Latin; Norwegian; Persian; Russian, Ukranian and other Slavic languages; Spanish; Swedish; Tagalog; Thai; Turkish; and Yiddish. Additional languages can be cataloged through the use of our variety of translation resources. Original records for all non-Roman scripts will have vernacular included. Vernacular for copy can be provided.

FORMATS

LCS provides cataloging for monographic (including legal materials, government documents, technical reports, scores, atlases, and dissertations), A/V, cartographic, continuing resources, electronic resources, and sound recordings (both spoken and musical, including classical music) formats.

CATALOGING PRACTICES

LCS follows the cataloging practices and provisions of AACR2r. We can also implement provider-neutral cataloging practices for textual electronic resources and can implement RDA cataloging practices should they be adopted in the future and requested by the library. Authority control is provided for in the cost of original cataloging prices.

CLASSIFICATION

Classifications available include LCC (Library of Congress Classification), DDC (Dewey Decimal Classification), and NLM (National Library of Medicine).

SUBJECT HEADINGS

Subject headings available include LCSH (Library of Congress Subject Headings), Bilindex, MeSH (NLM's Medical Subject Headings), and Sears. Local subject headings may also be applied.

DELIVERY

AACR2/MARC21 records can be delivered on CD-ROM or diskette or through FTP or email.
